Clarksville’s military history dates back to the Revolutionary War when the city was founded by war hero General George Rogers Clark. During the Civil War Fort Defiance stood watch over the Cumberland River. Generations later, you can still tour the space which has now expanded into a full interactive park as its legacy continues. And with Fort Campbell nearby, Clarksville proudly supports service members, veterans, and their families.

Many veterans choose to put down roots here after their service, giving back to the community that welcomed them. Organizations like Bizvets Connect helps veteran-owned businesses grow, while programs like the Chamber of Commerce’s “Veteran Business of the Month” recognize outstanding local entrepreneurs. This is why Clarksville is home to such a wide range of veteran-owned businesses, many of which give back through charitable work.

From restaurants to retail shops, each stop on this guide offers visitors a chance to connect with Clarksville’s story and support those who have served.

Veteran-Owned Businesses To Support in Clarksville

Craft Brewery

Star Spangled Brewing Co.: Known as “the most unapologetically patriotic brewery in America,” this lively downtown taproom was founded by retired U.S. Army Green Beret Josh Romaker, who served for 22 years. In honor of that legacy, the brewery donates a portion of its proceeds to first responders and military members. With both a production space and a downtown location, it’s a favorite gathering spot for craft beer and patriotic spirit.

Start your morning with a bacon-and-egg sandwich, a hearty omelet, or a peanut butter banana smoothie, and enjoy the feeling of supporting a veteran- and family-owned business.

Black Rifle Coffee Company: This veteran-owned premium coffee roaster serves pastries and breakfast sandwiches alongside fresh, made-to-order coffee roasted on site. Founded by former U.S. Army Green Beret Evan Hafer, the company is committed to hiring veterans and supporting their transition to civilian life.

The Amsterdam Local: This local favorite is owned and operated by a military spouse who stayed in Clarksville after connecting with the community. The cafe itself is inspired by time spent overseas, and offers coffee, baked goods, and inventive drinks in a European setting. The on-site marketplace also features locally made foods and home goods.
