Surrender of Clarksville

On February 19, 1862, troops on Union gunboats seized Confederate river forts near here following the Federal capture of Fort Donelson. Union Flag Officer, Andrew Foote,  met with local officials and negotiated the town’s surrender.

The Civil War Trails marker is at the base of the Pedestrian Overpass at the intersection of Riverside Dr. & College St.
