Robert Penn Warren, a local author, was born in the museum house on April 24, 1905. He is the only author to win Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry and fiction. Two of his fiction works were made into feature films, "All the Kings Men"(1949 & 2005) and "Band of Angels"(1957). He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. Warren was a professor at Vanderbilt, Southwestern University, University of Minnesota, University of Louisiana, and Yale University. RPW's career spanned seven decades until his death in 1989. He was materially involved in the civil rights movement, writing two books in support of the efforts for equality for African-Americans.
