It’s that time of year again at Austin Peay State University! Parent’s Weekend is just around the corner (September 20-22), and if you’re wondering where to take your family in Clarksville, we’ve got you covered. Whether it’s your parents, siblings, or even the grandparents tagging along, there’s something to keep everyone entertained in this vibrant town. From exciting outdoor adventures in the fall foliage to unique games and delicious desserts, here are ten must-do activities to create lasting memories during your family weekend in Clarksville.
1. Go Leaf Peeping on the Clarksville Greenway
Fall in Clarksville means beautiful scenery, and there’s no better place to experience it than the Clarksville Greenway. This fully paved, 9-mile trail was once an abandoned railway, and now offers tree-lined paths perfect for a family stroll or bike ride. Leaf peeping is at its peak this time of year, with stunning shades of orange, red, and gold brightening up the landscape. It’s a great opportunity to snap some pictures together—maybe even one for the family Christmas card!
2. Get Competitive at Rage'N Axe
If you’ve got that one family member who always thinks they’re going to win at everything, it’s time to put them to the test at Rage'N Axe! Show off your skills with some good old-fashioned axe throwing. Once the axes have flown and the sibling rivalries are in full swing, head into one of the two Rage Rooms. With space for up to ten people, the whole gang can go wild smashing stuff to let off steam—no need to worry about breaking Mom’s favorite vase here! Afterward, refuel with pizza and challenge the fam to cornhole or pool.
3. Hike Through History at Dunbar Cave State Park
Kick off your weekend with a hike through the scenic trails of Dunbar Cave State Park. If your family enjoys a bit of history, don’t miss the ancient cave art that brings the park’s past to life. These charcoal drawings and carvings date back to the 14th century, and the Mississippians believed the cave marked a portal to the Underworld. The park features over three miles of trails, ranging from easy to challenging, and every trail takes you past the cave entrance. Before heading out, stop by the museum and 1933 bathhouse gift shop to pick up a memento of your family day together.
4. Try Something New at Cross Creek Clays
Never tried clay shooting? Cross Creek Clays is the perfect place to jump in! Your family can test their aim at one of three 16-station sporting courses, suitable for all abilities. With two 40-foot towers launching clays from different angles and two covered 5-stands with Wobble traps, there’s plenty of excitement to keep everyone engaged. When it's time to relax, head to the 7,000-square-foot clubhouse or kick back by the fire pit in rocking chairs—and don’t forget to check out the wood-burning pizza oven!
5. Unwind With Live Music at Beachaven Vineyards & Winery
For families with parents who enjoy a little wine, head to Beachaven Vineyards & Winery for live music and food truck eats! Every weekend from May through October, local artists perform in the picnic area, creating a relaxing atmosphere for everyone. While adults enjoy wine tastings, family members not yet 21 can still enjoy the food, music, and lively ambiance. Check their Events Page to see who’s performing during your visit!
